أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُكْرَمِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْبِرْتِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُسْتَلِمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ زَاذَانَ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ قُرَّةَ ، عَنْ مَعْقِلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ امْرَأَةً ذَاتَ حَسَبٍ وَجَمَالٍ ، وَلَكِنَّهَا لا تَلِدُ أَفَأَتَزَوَّجُهَا ؟ فَنَهَاهُ ، ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الثَّانِيَةَ ، فَقَالَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ : فَنَهَاهُ ، ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الثَّالِثَةَ ، فَقَالَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ : فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تَزَوَّجُوا الْوَدُودَ الْوَلُودَ فَإِنِّي مُكَاثِرٌ بِكُمْ " .
Sayyiduna Ma’qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I intend to marry a woman who is wealthy and beautiful, but she does not have the ability to bear children. Should I marry her? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade him. He came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a second time and mentioned the same thing, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade him. He came a third time to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned the same thing, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Marry a woman who is loving and has the ability to bear children, for I will boast of your numbers on the Day of Resurrection.
