أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَازِمٍ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ سُلَيْمَانِ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ مَسْلَمَةَ يُطَارِدُ ابْنَةَ الضَّحَّاكِ عَلَى إِنْجَارٍ مِنْ أَنَاجِيرِ الْمَدِينَةِ يُبْصِرُهَا ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ : أَتَفْعَلُ هَذَا وَأَنْتَ صَاحِبُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ ! ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِذَا أَلْقَى اللَّهُ فِي قَلْبِ امْرِئٍ خِطْبَةَ امْرَأَةٍ ، فَلا بَأْسَ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَيْهَا " .
Sulaiman bin Abu Hathmah narrates: I saw Sayyiduna Muhammad bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) trying to secretly look at the daughter of Sayyiduna Dahhak (may Allah be pleased with him) in a garden in Madinah Munawwarah. I asked him: Are you doing this even though you are a companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He replied: Yes, I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When Allah puts in the heart of a servant the intention to send a marriage proposal to a woman, there is no harm if that person looks at that woman beforehand."
