Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I guide you to something that erases sins?" The people said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Performing ablution well when the self is reluctant (here, the narrator is unsure whether the word used was 'ablution' or 'purification'), walking more steps towards the mosque, and performing one prayer after another prayer. Whoever performs ablution well, leaves his house, and comes to the mosque, and (the narrator is unsure, perhaps) prays with the Muslims following the Imam, and then waits for the next prayer after it, the angels say: 'O Allah! Forgive him. O Allah! Have mercy on him.' When you stand for prayer, straighten your rows and fill the gaps in between. When the Imam says the takbir, you also say the takbir, for I can see you even from behind me. When the Imam «سمع اللہ لمن حمدہ» says, you say «ربنا لك الحمد». The best row for men is the front row, and the least good row for men is the last row. The best row for women is the last row, and the least good row for women is the front row. O group of women! When the men go into prostration, protect your gaze regarding the private parts of the men." The narrator says: I asked Abdullah bin Abu Bakr: What does this mean? (i.e., what is the reason for this instruction), so he said: Because their lower garments used to be short.
