Ibn Hibban

A’mash narrates: I heard Hajjaj bin Yusuf saying on the pulpit, “Recite the Qur’an in the manner in which Sayyiduna Jibreel recited it (that is, say): The Surah in which the cow is mentioned, the Surah in which the family of Imran is mentioned, the Surah in which women are mentioned.” A’mash says: Then I met Ibrahim Nakha’i and informed him about this, so he spoke ill of Hajjaj. Then Ibrahim Nakha’i informed: Abdur Rahman bin Yazid told me that he was with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) at the time when he stoned Jamrah Aqabah. He was standing in the lower part of the valley. He threw seven pebbles from the lower part of the valley, saying takbeer with each pebble. I said, “O Abu Abdur Rahman! People throw the pebbles from the upper part of the valley.” Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “By Him besides whom there is no deity, this is the standing place of the one upon whom Surah al-Baqarah was revealed.”
