أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، عَنْ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي حَكِيمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ جَارِيَةَ اللَّخْمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُمَيَّةَ الشَّعْبَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ أَبَا ثَعْلَبَةَ الْخُشَنِيَّ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا أَبَا ثَعْلَبَةَ كَيْفَ تَقُولُ فِي هَذِهِ الآيَةِ : لا يَضُرُّكُمْ مَنْ ضَلَّ إِذَا اهْتَدَيْتُمْ سورة المائدة آية 105 ؟ قَالَ : أَمَا وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ سَأَلْتَ عَنْهَا خَبِيرًا : سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فقَالَ : " بَلِ ائْتَمِرُوا بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَتَنَاهَوْا عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ ، حَتَّى إِذَا رَأَيْتَ شُحًّا مُطَاعًا ، وَهَوًى مُتَّبَعًا ، وَدُنْيَا مُؤْثَرَةً ، وَإِعْجَابَ كُلِّ ذِي رَأْيٍ بِرَأْيِهِ ، فَعَلَيْكَ نَفْسَكَ ، وَدَعْ أَمْرَ الْعَوَامِّ ، فَإِنَّ مِنْ وَرَائِكُمْ أَيَّامًا ، الصَّبْرُ فِيهِنَّ مِثْلُ قَبْضٍ عَلَى الْجَمْرِ ، لِلْعَامِلِ فِيهِنَّ مِثْلُ أَجْرِ خَمْسِينَ رَجُلا يَعْمَلُونَ مِثْلَ عَمَلِهِ " ، قَالَ وَزَادَنِي غَيْرُهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَجْرُ خَمْسِينَ مِنْهُمْ ؟ قَالَ : " خَمْسِينَ مِنْكُمْ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : يُشْبِهُ أَنْ يَكُونَ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ هُوَ الَّذِي قَالَ : وَزَادَنِي غَيْرُهُ .
Abu Umayyah Shabani narrates: I presented myself before Sayyiduna Abu Tha’labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him). I said: O Abu Tha’labah! What do you say about this verse: “When you obey, the one who goes astray cannot harm you.” So he said: By Allah! You have asked a person about this who knows about it. I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, and he said: Rather, you must enjoin good and forbid evil, until you see that miserliness is being followed, desires are being obeyed, the world is being preferred, and every intelligent person is self-admiring in his own opinion. At that time, you must take care of yourself and leave the affairs of the people, because after that there will come days in which being patient will be like holding a burning coal in the hand. In those days, the one who acts will have the reward of fifty men who do such deeds. While other narrators have reported these words: They said: O Messenger of Allah! The reward of fifty men from among them? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The reward of fifty men from among you.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) It is possible that Ibn Mubarak narrated these words that another narrator conveyed more (words) to me.
