أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ الْجَحْدَرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ : أَرَأَيْتَ هَذَا الرَّمَلَ بِالْبَيْتِ ثَلاثَةَ أَطْوَافٍ ، وَمَشَى أَرْبَعَةَ أَطْوَافٍ ، أَسُنَّةٌ هُوَ ، فَإِنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُ سَنَةٌ ؟ ، فَقَالَ : صَدَقُوا ، وَكَذَبُوا ، قُلْتُ : مَا قَوْلُكَ صَدَقُوا ، وَكَذَبُوا ؟ ، قَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدِمَ مَكَّةَ ، فَقَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ : إِنَّ مُحَمَّدًا وَأَصْحَابَهُ لا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ أَنْ يَطُوفُوا بِالْبَيْتِ مِنَ الْهُزَالِ ، قَالَ : وَكَانُوا يَحْسُدُونَهُ ، قَالَ : " فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَرْمُلُوا ثَلاثًا ، وَيَمْشُوا أَرْبَعًا " ، قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ لَهُ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَنِ الطَّوَافِ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ رَاكِبًا ، سَنَةٌ هُوَ ، فَإِنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُ سَنَةٌ ؟ ، قَالَ : صَدَقُوا ، وَكَذَبُوا ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : مَا قَوْلُكَ صَدَقُوا ، وَكَذَبُوا ؟ ، قَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَثُرَ عَلَيْهِ النَّاسُ يَقُولُونَ : هَذَا مُحَمَّدٌ ؟ ، هَذَا مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، حَتَّى خَرَجَتِ الْعَوَاتِقُ مِنَ الْبُيُوتِ ، قَالَ : " وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لا يَصْرِفُ النَّاسَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، فَلَمَّا كَثُرَ عَلَيْهِ رَكِبَ " ، وَالْمَشْيُ وَالسَّعْيُ أَفْضَلُ .
Abu Tufail narrates: I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): What is your opinion about ramal? Is it Sunnah to perform ramal in three circuits while circumambulating the House of Allah and to walk at a normal pace in four circuits? The people of your community say: This is Sunnah. He replied: They have stated some things correctly and some things incorrectly. I asked: What do you mean by saying that they have stated some things correctly and some things incorrectly? He said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Makkah, the polytheists said: Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions will not be able to circumambulate the House of Allah due to weakness. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Those people were jealous of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that people should perform ramal in three circuits and walk at a normal pace in four circuits. The narrator says: I asked him: Tell me about performing the sa’i between Safa and Marwah, is it Sunnah to do it while riding? The people of your community say: This is Sunnah. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas replied: They have stated some things correctly and some things incorrectly. I asked him: What do you mean by your statement that they have stated some things correctly and some things incorrectly? He explained: The crowd around the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had increased greatly. They were saying: This is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), this is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), until the women came out of their houses. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was not pushing people away from in front of him. When the crowd increased, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mounted (his ride). Otherwise, walking and running on foot is more virtuous.
