أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : أَهْلَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْحَجِّ خَالِصًا لَيْسَ مَعَهُ شَيْءٌ غَيْرُهُ ، فَقَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ صُبْحَ رَابِعَةٍ مَضَتْ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ ، فَأَمَرَنَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ نَحِلَّ ، قَالَ : " أَحِلُّوا وَاجْعَلُوهَا عَمْرَةً " ، فَبَلَغَهُ عَنَّا أَنَا ، نَقُولُ : لَمَّا لَمْ يَكُنْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ عَرَفَةَ إِلا خَمْسًا أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَحِلَّ ، نَرُوحُ إِلَى مِنًى ، وَمَذَاكِيرُنَا تَقْطُرُ مِنَ الْمَنِيِّ ، فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطِيبًا ، فَقَالَ : " قَدْ بَلَغَنِي الَّذِي قُلْتُمْ ، وَإِنِّي لأَبَرُّكُمْ وَأَتْقَاكُمْ ، وَلَوْلا الْهَدْيُ لَحَلَلْتُ ، وَلَوِ اسْتَقْبَلْتُ مِنْ أَمْرِي مَا اسْتَدْبَرْتُ مَا أَهْدَيْتُ " ، قَالَ : وَقَدِمَ عَلِيٌّ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ ، فَقَالَ : " بِمَ أَهْلَلْتَ ؟ ، قَالَ : بِمَا أَهَلَ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " فَاهْدِ ، وَامْكُثْ حَرَامًا كَمَا أَنْتَ " ، قَالَ : وَقَالَ لَهُ سُرَاقَةُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، عُمْرَتُنَا هَذِهِ لِعَامِنَا أَمْ لِلأَبَدِ ؟ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ : " بَلْ لِلأَبَدِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We, that is, the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), had assumed only the Ihram for Hajj, and nothing else was with it. We reached Makkah on the morning of the fourth of Dhul-Hijjah, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered us to open our Ihram. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: You people open your Ihram and convert it into Umrah. Then it came to his knowledge about us that we were saying: Now there are only five days left between us and Arafah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is ordering us to open our Ihram. Will we go to Mina in such a state that semen will be dripping from our private parts? So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up to deliver a sermon. He said: What you have said has reached me. I am the most righteous and God-fearing among you. If I had not brought the sacrificial animal with me, and if what occurred to me later had occurred to me earlier, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal (and I too would have opened my Ihram). The narrator states: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came from Yemen, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) inquired: What intention did you make? He replied: I made the same intention as the Ihram of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: You have brought the sacrificial animal with you, so remain in Ihram as you are. The narrator says: Sayyiduna Suraqah (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Is this command to convert (the Ihram of Hajj) into Umrah specific to this year or forever? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: No, rather it is forever.
