Ayub narrated from Nafi’ that Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: “A person who does not find an izar (lower garment) may wear trousers, and a person who does not find shoes may wear socks.” The narrator says: Then he gestured with his hand, and Ibrahim bin Hajjaj gestured as if he did not care about the hadith, so I got up from him. Then Hajjaj bin Arta’ah met me inside the mosque, so I said: O Arta’ah, what do you say about a muhrim (person in ihram) who wears trousers or socks? He replied: Amr bin Dinar narrated from Jabir bin Zaid, from Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “A person who does not find an izar may wear trousers, and a person who does not find shoes may wear socks.”
