Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: On the day of the conquest of Makkah, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This city is sacred. Allah Almighty has declared it sacred until the Day of Resurrection. Its game is not to be chased away, its thorns are not to be broken, and its lost property is not to be picked up, except by one who will announce it. Its plants are not to be uprooted. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) requested: Grant permission for idhkhir (a type of grass), as it is used in houses. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Permission is granted for idhkhir. Now migration is no longer obligatory, but jihad and intention remain. And when you are called to go forth (for jihad), then go forth.
