Zirr bin Hubaish says: I met Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him). I said to him: Speak with me, for I like meeting you, and I have come only to meet you. Tell me about the Night of Qadr, because Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Only the one who performs voluntary prayers throughout the year can attain it. So Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: He knows that it is in the month of Ramadan, but he likes that it remains hidden from you. It is the twenty-seventh night, which has a specific sign, about which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) informed us, and we preserved it and came to know it. The narrator named Zirr bin Hubaish used to observe continuous fasting until suhoor, then on the night before or after the twenty-seventh night, he climbed the minaret. He observed the rising of the sun and said: It has risen, but it had no rays until it became high.
