Zirr bin Hubaish narrates: We said to Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him): Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Only the one who offers voluntary prayers throughout the year can attain Laylat al-Qadr. Sayyiduna Ubayy said: By Allah, besides whom there is no deity, it is in the month of Ramadan. He swore an oath without making any exception, and by Allah! I know that Laylat al-Qadr is the night about which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded us to spend in voluntary prayers, and it is the morning of the twenty-seventh night. It has a specific sign: the next day, when the sun rises in the morning, it is bright, but it has no rays; it appears as if it is a flat dish.
