Hadith 3620

أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى الصَّنْعَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ ذَكُوَانَ ، عَنِ الرُّبَيِّعِ بِنْتِ مُعَوِّذِ بْنِ عَفْرَاءَ ، قَالَتْ : أَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَدَاةَ عَاشُورَاءَ إِلَى قُرَى الأَنْصَارِ الَّتِي حَوْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ : " مَنْ كَانَ أَصْبَحَ صَائِمًا فَلِيُتِمَّ صَوْمَهُ ، وَمَنْ كَانَ أَصْبَحَ مُفْطِرًا فَلِيَصُمْ بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ ذَلِكَ " ، قَالَتْ : فَكُنَّا نَصُومُهُ وَنُصَوِّمُ صِبِيَانَنَا الصِّغَارَ وَنَذْهَبُ بِهِمْ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ ، وَنَجْعَلُ لَهُمُ اللُّعْبَةَ مِنَ الْعِهْنِ ، فَإِذَا بَكَى أَحَدُهُمْ عَلَى الطَّعَامِ ، أَعْطَيْنَاهَا إِيَّاهُ حَتَّى يَكُونَ عِنْدَ الإِفْطَارِ .
Sayyida Rubayyi’ bint Mu’awwidh bin ‘Afra’ (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent a message in the morning of the day of ‘Ashura to the settlements of the Ansar around Madinah, saying that whoever is fasting should complete his fast, and whoever has eaten should observe fasting for the rest of the day (i.e., should not eat or drink any more). Sayyida Rubayyi’ (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: We used to fast on that day, and we used to make our small children fast as well. We would take them with us to the mosque and make dolls out of flour for them. When any one of them cried for food, we would give that to him, until it was time to break the fast (then we would break our fast).
