أَخْبَرَنَا الْبُجَيْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِيَّاكُمْ وَالُوِصَالَ ، إِيَّاكُمْ وَالُوِصَالَ " ، قَالُوا : فَإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ فَقَالَ : " إِنِّي لَسْتُ فِي ذَلِكَ مِثْلَكُمْ ، إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي ، فَاكْلَفُوا مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا لَكُمْ بِهِ طَاقَةٌ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not observe continuous fasting (wisal), do not observe continuous fasting (wisal). The people said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! But you also observe continuous fasting. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I am not like you in this matter. I spend the night in such a state that my Lord gives me food and drink. You should only take upon yourselves as much as you have the strength to do.
