Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) set out from Madinah towards Makkah. He was fasting, and when he reached the place of Usfan, he asked for water. He raised his blessed hand so that the people could see him, then he broke his fast, and until he reached Makkah (he did not fast). This was during the month of Ramadan. Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has both fasted and not fasted during travel, so whoever wishes may fast during travel, and whoever wishes may not fast.
