Hadith 3552

أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلا قَدِ اجْتَمَعَ النَّاسُ ، وَقَدْ ظُلِّلَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا هَذَا ؟ " قَالُوا : رَجُلٌ صَائِمٌ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَيْسَ الْبِرَّ أَنْ تَصُومُوا فِي السَّفَرِ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a man around whom people had gathered and were providing shade for him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) inquired: What is the matter? The people replied: This man is observing a fast. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not an act of righteousness that you fast while traveling.
