Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his father (Imam Muhammad al-Baqir, may Allah be pleased with him) the statement of Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him): On the occasion of the conquest of Makkah, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out. He was fasting until he reached Kura‘ al-Ghamim. The people were also fasting. Then he asked for a cup of water, raised it, and the people began to look at him, so he drank it. After that, it was submitted to him that some people were still fasting, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They are disobedient people." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:): The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called them disobedient because when he commanded them to break their fast during the journey, they did not act upon this command. This does not mean that those people became disobedient merely because of fasting during the journey, because both fasting and not fasting during travel are absolutely permissible.
