Hadith 3447

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفِيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السَّمَرْقَنْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَرُوَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ يَحِيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَالِمِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " تَرَاءَى النَّاسُ الْهِلالَ ، فَرَأَيْتُهُ ، فَأَخْبَرْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَصَامَ ، وَأَمَرَ النَّاسَ بِصِيَامِهِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The people tried to sight the new moon of the first (of the month), and I saw it. I informed the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about it, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fasted and ordered the people to fast as well.
