Hadith 342

أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْحَمِقِ الْخُزَاعِيَّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِعَبْدٍ خَيْرًا عَسَلَهُ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ " قِيلَ : وَمَا عَسَلُهُ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ ؟ قَالَ : " يُفْتَحُ لَهُ عَمَلٌ صَالِحٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ مَوْتِهِ حَتَّى يَرْضَى عَنْهُ " .
Sayyiduna Amr bin Hamiq Khuzai (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty intends good for a servant, He purifies him before his death (that is, He makes his praiseworthy qualities known)." It was asked: What is meant by purifying him before his death? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Righteous deeds are opened up for him before his death, until that person becomes pleased with them.
