Hadith 3414

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفِيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَرِيفٍ الْبَجَلِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ، أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، رَأَيْتُ فُلانًا يَشْكُرُ ، ذَكَرَ أَنَّكَ أَعْطَيْتَهُ دِينَارَيْنِ ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَكِنَّ فُلانًا قَدْ أَعْطَيْتُهُ مَا بَيْنَ الْعَشَرَةِ إِلَى الْمِئَةِ ، فَمَا يَشْكُرُهُ وَلا يَقُولُهُ ، إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ لَيَخْرُجُ مِنْ عِنْدِي لِحَاجَتِهِ مُتَأَبِّطَهَا ، وَمَا هِيَ إِلا النَّارُ " ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَمْ تُعْطِهِمْ ؟ قَالَ : " يَأْبَوْنَ إِلا أَنْ يَسْأَلُونِي ، وَيَأْبَى اللَّهُ لِيَ الْبُخْلَ " .
Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: He came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! I saw such and such person expressing gratitude, he mentioned that you (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave him two dinars. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: That person, I had given him between ten and one hundred, but he did not thank me nor did he mention it. No person leaves from me with something for his need, which he carries under his arm, except that it is only fire from Hell. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Why do you give to such people? So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: They keep asking me, and Allah the Exalted does not approve of my being stingy.
