Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: There was a man named Abu Mazkoor who freed his slave as a Mudabbar. That man had no wealth except for that slave. The slave's name was Yaqub. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) inquired: Who will buy him? So a man from Banu Adi bought him for eight hundred dirhams. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: When a person is poor, he should begin with himself; if he has surplus wealth, he should spend on his wife; if he has surplus wealth, he should spend on his close relatives; if there is still surplus, then he should spend here and there.
