Hadith 3335

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ ، عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَيُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَعْظَمُ ؟ قَالَ : " أَنْ تَصَدَّقَ وَأَنْتَ صَحِيحٌ شَحِيحٌ ، تَخْشَى الْفَقْرَ وَتَأْمَلُ الْغِنَى ، وَلا تُمْهِلْ حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومَ ، قُلْتَ : لِفُلانٍ كَذَا وَلِفُلانٍ كَذَا ، أَلا وَقَدْ كَانَ لِفُلانٍ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Which charity is the greatest? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: That you give charity while you are healthy, fearing poverty and hoping for prosperity. Do not delay it so much that the soul reaches the throat, then you say: Give so much to so-and-so and so much to so-and-so, while it has already become theirs.
