Hadith 3324

أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفِيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الأَشْعَرِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَطْعِمُوا الْجَائِعَ ، وَعُودُوا الْمَرِيضَ ، وَفُكُّوا الْعَانِيَ " ، قَالَ سُفِيَانُ : الْعَانِي الأَسِيرُ .
Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Feed the hungry, visit the sick, and have the captive set free." The narrator named Sufyan says: By the word "al-'ani" (used in the text of the narration) is meant the captive.
