أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحِيَى الذُّهْلِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ ، قَالَ ابْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ ، وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْهَاشِمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَرُوَانَ الْعُثْمَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنِ الْعَلاءِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قِيلَ لَهُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، صَاعُنَا أَصْغَرُ الصِّيعَانِ ، وَمُدُّنَا أَصْغَرُ الأَمْدَادِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي صَاعِنَا ، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي قَلِيلِنَا وَكَثِيرِنَا ، وَاجْعَلْ لَنَا مَعَ الْبَرَكَةِ بَرَكَتَيْنِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : فِي تَرْكِ إِنْكَارِ الْمُصْطَفَى صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَيْثُ قَالُوا : صَاعُنَا أَصْغَرُ الصِّيعَانِ بَيَانٌ وَاضِحٌ أَنَّ صَاعَ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ أَصْغَرُ الصِّيعَانِ ، وَلَمْ يَخْتَلِفْ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ لَدُنِ الصَّحَابَةِ إِلَى يَوْمِنَا هَذَا فِي الصَّاعِ وَقَدْرِهِ إِلا مَا قَالَهُ الْحِجَازِيُّونَ وَالْعِرَاقِيُّونَ ، فَزَعَمَ الْحِجَازِيُّونَ أَنَّ الصَّاعَ خَمْسَةُ أَرْطَالٍ وَثُلُثٌ ، وَقَالَ الْعِرَاقِيُّونَ : الصَّاعُ ثَمَانِيَةُ أَرْطَالٍ ، فَلَمَّا لَمْ نَجِدْ بَيْنَ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ خِلافًا فِي قَدْرِ الصَّاعِ إِلا مَا وَصَفْنَا ، صَحَّ أَنَّ صَاعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ خَمْسَةَ أَرْطَالٍ وَثُلُثًا ، إِذْ هُوَ أَصْغَرُ الصِّيعَانِ ، وَبَطَلَ قَوْلُ مَنْ زَعَمَ أَنَّ الصَّاعَ ثَمَانِيَةُ أَرْطَالٍ مِنْ غَيْرِ دَلِيلٍ ثَبَتَ لَهُ عَلَى صِحَّتِهِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: It was submitted to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Our sa’ is the smallest sa’ and our mudd is the smallest mudd." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "O Allah! Bless our sa’ for us, bless for us what is little and what is much, and grant us, along with this blessing, two more blessings." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not object to their words when they said, "Our sa’ is the smallest sa’," is a clear statement that the sa’ of the people of Madinah is the smallest among all sa’s. From the time of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) until our present era, there has been no disagreement among the scholars regarding this sa’ and its measurement, except for the difference of opinion between the people of Hijaz and the people of Iraq. The people of Hijaz say that one sa’ is five ratl and one third of a ratl, while the people of Iraq say that one sa’ is eight ratl. Thus, we do not find any disagreement among the scholars regarding the measurement of the sa’, except what we have mentioned. Therefore, it is authentically established that the sa’ of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was five ratl and one third of a ratl, because this is the smallest sa’, and the view of the one who claims that one sa’ is eight ratl is proven to be incorrect, as he has stated this without any evidence that can be considered authentic.
