Hadith 3260

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَشْهَبِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا خُلَيْدٌ الْعَصَرِيُّ ، عَنِ الأَحْنَفِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ فِي نَفَرٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ ، فَمَرَّ أَبُو ذَرٍّ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " بَشِّرِ الْكَنَّازِينَ فِي ظُهُورِهِمْ بِكَيٍّ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ جُنُوبِهِمْ ، وَبِكَيٍّ مِنْ قِبَلِ قَفَاهُمْ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ جِبَاهِهِمْ ، ثُمَّ تَنَحَّى ، فَقَعَدَ " ، فَقُلْتُ : مَنْ هَذَا ؟ قَالُوا : أَبُو ذَرٍّ ، فَقُمْتُ إِلَيْهِ ، فَقُلْتُ : مَا شَيْءٌ سَمِعْتُكَ تَقُولُهُ قُبَيْلُ ؟ قَالَ : مَا قُلْتُ إِلا شَيْئًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ نَبِيِّهِمْ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : فَمَا تَقُولُ فِي هَذَا الْعَطَاءِ ؟ قَالَ : خُذْهُ ، فَإِنَّ فِيهِ الِيَوْمَ مَعُونَةً ، فَإِذَا كَانَ ثَمَنًا لِدِينِكَ فَدَعْهُ .
Ahnaf bin Qais says: I was sitting with some individuals of the Quraish when Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by. He said: Inform the hoarders of wealth that their backs will be branded with that which comes out from their sides, and they will be branded with that which is placed towards their nape, so it will come out from the front. Then he moved aside and sat down. I asked: Who is this? The people replied: This is Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him). I got up and went to him and said: Just a little while ago I heard you narrate something, what is that? He replied: I have only narrated what I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I asked: Then what do you say about this salary? He replied: You may take it, for now it is used to fulfill needs, but when it becomes the price of your religion, then leave it.
