Sayyiduna Jabir bin Atik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to visit Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was ill, and found him in a state that he was overpowered. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called out to him in a loud voice, but he did not respond. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited «انا لله و انا الیه راجعون» and said: "O Abu Rabi', your matter is beyond our control." At this, the women began to weep loudly. Sayyiduna Jabir bin Atik (may Allah be pleased with him) began to silence them. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Let them be. When it becomes obligatory, then no mourner should weep." The people asked: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), what is meant by 'when it becomes obligatory'?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When he passes away." His daughter said: "By Allah, I hope that you will be a martyr, because you have completed your preparations." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah grants reward according to one's intention. Whom do you count as a martyr?" The people replied: "One who is killed in the way of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Besides being killed in the way of Allah, there are seven other types of martyrdom: one who dies of a stomach illness is a martyr, one who drowns is a martyr, one who dies of pneumonia is a martyr, one who dies of plague is a martyr, one who dies by burning is a martyr, one who dies under debris is a martyr, and a woman who dies during childbirth is a martyr."
