Salamah bin Azraq narrates: I was sitting with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) when a funeral was brought there over which people were weeping, so Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) objected to this and rebuked those women. Salamah bin Azraq said: I was present with Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), I heard him say: Once a funeral passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at that time, and Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was also with him. Women were weeping over the deceased, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) rebuked and scolded them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Umar! Let them do so, for the eye sheds tears, the body feels pain, and (the distressing event) has just occurred.
