Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) passed by two graves and said: "They are being punished, but not for something that seemed a major matter. One of them used to spread slander, and the other did not protect himself from urine." Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked for a branch, broke it, and placed it on both of their graves and said: "(I have done this) so that their punishment may be lightened as long as these do not dry." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:): Mujahid also heard this narration from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), and he heard it from Tawus on the authority of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). So both of its chains are preserved.
