باب ما جاء في الطاعات وثوابها - ذكر ما يستحب للمرء أن يقوم في أداء الشكر لله جل وعلا بإتيان الطاعات بأعضائه دون الذكر باللسان وحدهChapter on Acts of Obedience and Their Rewards – It is recommended to thank Allah by performing acts of obedience with one’s limbs, not just the tongue.
Hadith 311

أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ عِلاقَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ ، يَقُولُ : قَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى إِذَا تَوَرَّمَتْ قَدَمَاهُ ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَتَفْعَلُ هَذَا وَقَدْ غُفِرَ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ ؟ قَالَ : " أَفَلا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا " .
Sayyiduna Mughira bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to offer voluntary prayers at night and would stand for so long that both his feet would become swollen. It was submitted to him: O Messenger of Allah! Do you do this while your past and future (sins) have been forgiven? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) replied: Should I not be a grateful servant?
