Hadith 3103

أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ الْقُطَيْعِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، خَطَبَ يَوْمًا ، فَذَكَرَ رَجُلا مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ كُفِّنَ فِي كَفَنٍ غَيْرِ طَائِلٍ ، وَدُفِنَ لَيْلا فَزَجَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّ يُقْبَرَ الرَّجُلُ لَيْلا إِلا أَنْ يُضْطَرَّ الإِنْسَانُ إِلَى ذَلِكَ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates: One day the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon. He mentioned one of his companions who was given a small shroud and was buried at night. So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that anyone should be buried at night, except if a person is compelled in this matter (then the ruling is different).
