Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever, with faith and hoping for reward, accompanies a Muslim’s funeral, until the funeral prayer is offered, then remains seated until (the deceased) is placed in the grave, when he returns, he will receive two qirats of reward. Both these qirats are like the mountain of Uhud. And whoever returns after offering the funeral prayer before the burial, he will receive one qirat.” (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ‘both are like Uhud’ means: one of the two is (as great as) the mountain of Uhud.
