Hadith 3053

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْمُقْرِئُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ سَيْفٍ الْمَعَافِرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحُبُلِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ : سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، تَمُرُّ بِنَا جَنَازَةُ الْكَافِرِ أَفَنَقُومُ لَهَا ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ فَقُومُوا لَهَا ، فَإِنَّكُمْ لَسْتُمْ تَقُومُونَ لَهَا ، إِنَّمَا تَقُومُونَ إِعْظَامًا لِلَّذِي يَقْبِضُ الأَرْوَاحَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Sometimes a funeral of a disbeliever passes by us, should we stand for it as well? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, stand for it, because you are not standing for the deceased, but rather you are standing out of respect for the one who seizes the soul.
