أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الْهُنَائِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ شَقِيقٍ الْعُقَيْلِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، نَزَلَ بَيْنَ ضُجْنَانَ وَعُسْفَانَ ، فَحَاصَرَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ، قَالَ : فَقَالُوا : إِنَّ لِهَؤُلاءِ صَلاةً هِيَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنْ أَبْنَائِهِمْ وَأَبْكَارِهِمْ يَعْنُونَ : الْعَصْرَ ، فَأَجْمِعُوا أَمْرَكُمْ ، ثُمَّ مِيلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ مَيْلَةً وَاحِدَةً ، قَالَ : فَجَاءَ جِبْرِيلُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَقْسِمَ أَصْحَابَهُ شَطْرَيْنِ ، وَيُصَلِّيَ بِالطَّائِفَةِ الأُولَى رَكْعَةً ، وَيَأْخُذُ الطَّائِفَةُ الأُخْرَى حِذْرَهُمْ ، وَأَسْلِحَتَهُمْ ، فَإِذَا صَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً تَأَخَّرُوا وَتَقَدَّمَ الآخَرُونَ ، فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ، وَأَخَذَ هَؤُلاءِ الآخَرُونَ حِذْرَهُمْ وَأَسْلِحَتَهُمْ ، فَكَانَتْ لِكُلِّ طَائِفَةٍ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، رَكْعَةٌ رَكْعَةٌ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates: The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, camped between Dajnan and Usfan. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had besieged the polytheists. The narrator says: Those polytheists said, "This prayer is more beloved to them than their sons and their virgins." They meant the Asr prayer. "So prepare yourselves and launch a single attack upon them." The narrator says: Sayyiduna Jibreel, peace be upon him, came to the service of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: "Divide your companions into two groups. Lead the first group in one rak'ah while the other group keeps their weapons ready. When you have led them in one rak'ah, they should move back and the second group should come forward. Lead them also in one rak'ah, and they should keep their weapons and equipment ready." In this way, each group performed one rak'ah behind the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
