Qasim bin Hassan narrates: I presented myself before Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) and I asked him about the prayer of fear (Salat al-Khawf). He said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led the prayer; one row stood behind him and one row stood facing the enemy. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led these people in one rak'ah, then they went and stood in the place of their brothers, and the other group came. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led them in one rak'ah as well, then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said the salam. Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed two rak'ahs, and each group performed one rak'ah.
