Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Some people complained to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) about the lack of rain, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered that the pulpit be placed in the Eid ground. The Prophet (peace be upon him) promised the people a day, and on that day, when the people came, Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates, as soon as the sun rose, the Prophet (peace be upon him) set out and sat on the pulpit. The Prophet (peace be upon him) praised and glorified Allah, then said: You have complained about your gardens drying up and about the long period without rain. Allah Almighty has commanded you to supplicate to Him, and He has promised you that He will accept your supplication. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) recited: All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, Master of the Day of Judgment. There is no deity except You; You do whatever You will. O Allah! You are Allah, there is no deity except You, You are Self-Sufficient and we are needy before You, so send down rain upon us, and make what You send down to us a source of strength and a means to goodness.
Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) raised both his hands until we saw the whiteness of his armpits. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) turned his back to the people and turned his cloak inside out. The Prophet (peace be upon him) kept his hands raised, then he turned to face the people, descended from the pulpit, and performed two units of prayer. Then Allah Almighty created clouds, there was thunder and lightning, and it began to rain by Allah’s command. We were still in the mosque when the drains began to overflow. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) saw that people had covered themselves with their clothes, he smiled so much that his molar teeth became visible. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: I bear witness that surely Allah has power over all things, and I am Allah’s servant and His Messenger.
