It is narrated about Tha’laba bin ‘Abad ‘Abdi that he was present during the sermon of Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him). During his sermon, he narrated a hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) stated: During the blessed era of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), once I and a boy from among the Ansar were practicing archery until the sun became as high as two spears, or perhaps three spears, and the horizon appeared dark to the observer (i.e., a solar eclipse occurred). One of us said to his companion: Let us go to the mosque. By Allah! This state of the sun will bring a new command from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding his Ummah. The narrator says: We went to the mosque and found the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) there. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came towards the people. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advanced and began to lead us in prayer, which was the longest prayer he (peace and blessings be upon him) ever led us in, but we did not hear his voice. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed prostration, which was the longest prostration we ever performed in any prayer, but we did not hear his voice. Then, after performing the second rak‘ah in the same manner, he sat down. The narrator says: As soon as he (peace and blessings be upon him) sat in the second rak‘ah, the sun became bright, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) concluded the prayer with salam.
