Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was shooting arrows in Madinah Munawwarah when a solar eclipse occurred. I put the arrows aside and thought: By Allah! Today I will definitely find out what the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) does regarding a solar eclipse. The narrator says: I went to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) at that time, and he was performing prayer. The Prophet (peace be upon him) had raised both his hands, he was reciting «سبحان الله الحمدالله الله اكبر لا اله الا اللہ», and supplicating, until when the eclipse ended, he recited two surahs and then performed two rak‘ahs.
