Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: In the sacred time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), there was a solar eclipse. The Prophet (peace be upon him) led the people in prayer. He stood for a long time, then he bowed (ruku) and prolonged the bowing. Then he stood again and prolonged the standing, but it was less than the first standing. Then he bowed again and prolonged the bowing, but it was less than the first bowing. Then he raised his head and went into prostration (sajda). Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) performed the second rak'ah in the same manner as the first rak'ah. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) completed the prayer, the sun had become bright again. The Prophet (peace be upon him) praised Allah while addressing the people and then said: "Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of anyone's death or life. When you see them, supplicate to Allah, proclaim His greatness, and give charity." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "O Ummah of Muhammad! By Allah! No one gets as angry as Allah does when His servant commits adultery or His maidservant commits adultery. O Ummah of Muhammad! By Allah! If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much."
