Hadith 2735

أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ : إِنَّا نَجِدُ صَلاةَ الْحَضَرِ وَصَلاةَ الْخَوْفِ ، وَلا نَجْدُ صَلاةَ السَّفَرِ فِي الْقُرْآنِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : " ابْنَ أَخِي ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَلَّ وَعَلا بَعَثَ إِلَيْنَا مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلا نَعْلَمُ شَيْئًا ، فَإِنَّمَا نَفْعَلُ كَمَا رَأَيْنَاهُ يَفْعَلُ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : أَبَاحَ اللَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلا قَصْرَ الصَّلاةِ عِنْدَ وُجُودِ الْخَوْفِ فِي كِتَابِهِ حَيْثُ يَقُولُ : فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ تَقْصُرُوا مِنَ الصَّلاةِ إِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَنْ يَفْتِنَكُمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا سورة النساء آية 101 ، وَأَبَاحَ الْمُصْطَفَى صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَصْرَ الصَّلاةِ فِي السَّفَرِ عِنْدَ وُجُودِ الأَمْنِ بِغَيْرِ الشَّرْطِ الَّذِي أَبَاحَ اللَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلا قَصْرَ الصَّلاةِ بِهِ ، فَالْفِعْلانِ جَمِيعًا مُبَاحَانِ مِنَ اللَّهِ ، أَحَدُهُمَا إِبَاحَةٌ فِي كِتَابِهِ ، وَالآخَرُ إِبَاحَةٌ عَلَى لِسَانِ رَسُولِهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
Umayyah bin Abdullah narrates: He said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): We find mention of the prayer in residence and the prayer of fear, but we do not find mention of the prayer of travel in the Qur'an. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: O my nephew, indeed Allah Almighty sent Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace be upon him) to us when we had no knowledge of anything, so we do as we saw him (peace be upon him) doing. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Allah Almighty has made it permissible to shorten the prayer in the presence of fear, as is mentioned in His Book. He has said: "There is no sin upon you if you shorten the prayer when you are in a state of fear (and the fear is) that the disbelievers may put you to trial." Whereas the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) made it permissible to shorten the prayer during travel, at a time when there is security. He did so without any condition, whereas Allah Almighty had set a condition for shortening the prayer. So both of these actions are permissible from Allah: one whose permissibility is mentioned in His Book, and the other whose permissibility is mentioned from the tongue of His Messenger.
