Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to participate in a military expedition. He asked: Have you gotten married? I replied: Yes. He asked: To a virgin or to a previously married woman? I replied: Rather, to a previously married woman (i.e., a widow or a divorced woman). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why did you not marry a young girl so that you could play with her and she could play with you? I replied: I have sisters, and I preferred to marry a woman who would look after them, comb their hair, and take care of them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Now you are returning, so when you go home, act wisely. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) By the word "wisely" is meant to have intercourse.
