Ata bin Abu Marwan narrates from his father that Ka’b al-Ahbar swore by the One Who parted the sea for Sayyiduna Musa (may Allah be pleased with him), and stated that Sayyiduna Suhaib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith to him: Whenever the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to enter a town, as soon as he saw the town, he would recite: “O Allah! Lord of the seven heavens and all that they overshadow! Lord of the seven earths and all that they contain beneath them! Lord of the winds and all that they scatter! Lord of the devils and all whom they mislead! We ask You for the goodness of this town, the goodness of its people, and the goodness that is in it, and we seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of its people, and the evil that is in it.”
