Hadith 2612

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي فِيمَا بَيْنَ أَنْ يَفْرُغَ مِنْ صَلاةِ الْعِشَاءِ ، وَهِيَ الَّتِي يَدْعُو النَّاسُ الْعَتَمَةَ إِلَى الْفَجْرِ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً ، يُسَلِّمُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، وَيُوتِرُ بِوَاحِدَةٍ ، فَإِذَا سَكَتَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ مِنْ صَلاةِ الْفَجْرِ ، وَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الْفَجْرُ ، وَجَاءَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ ، قَامَ فَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ ، وَاضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ بِالإِقَامَةِ " .
Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to perform eleven rak'ahs from after the 'Isha prayer, which people call 'Atamah, until Fajr. He would say salam after every two rak'ahs. He would perform Witr with a single rak'ah. When the muezzin would finish giving the adhan for Fajr and the true dawn had appeared and the muezzin would come, he (the Prophet) would get up and perform two short rak'ahs, then he would lie down on his right side until the muezzin would come to call him.
