Hadith 2605

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ يُوسُفَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنِ الْمُسْتَوْرِدِ بْنِ الأَحْنَفِ ، عَنْ صِلَةَ بْنِ زُفَرَ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ ، فَمَا مَرَّ بِآيَةِ رَحْمَةٍ إِلا وَقَفَ عِنْدَهَا فَسَأَلَ ، وَلا مَرَّ بِآيَةِ عَذَابٍ إِلا وَقَفَ عِنْدَهَا وَتَعَوَّذَ " .
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I performed prayer one night behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and whenever he reached a verse mentioning mercy, he would pause there and ask for that mercy, and whenever he recited a verse mentioning punishment, he would pause there and seek refuge from that punishment.
