أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ ، بِنَسَا ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زَنْجُوَيْهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ ، عَنْ مُرَّةَ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " عَجِبَ رَبُّنَا مِنْ رَجُلَيْنِ : رَجُلٍ ثَارَ عَنْ وِطَائِهِ وَلِحَافِهِ مِنْ بَيْنَ حِبِّهِ وَأَهْلِهِ إِلَى صَلاتِهِ ، فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلا لِمَلائِكَتِهِ : انْظُرُوا إِلَى عَبْدِي ، ثَارَ عَنْ فِرَاشِهِ وَوِطَائِهِ مِنْ بَيْنَ حِبِّهِ وَأَهْلِهِ إِلَى صَلاتِهِ رَغْبَةً فِيمَا عِنْدِي ، وَشَفَقَةً مِمَّا عِنْدِي ، وَرَجُلٍ غَزَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، فَانْهَزَمَ أَصْحَابُهُ ، وَعَلِمَ مَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الانْهِزَامِ ، وَمَا لَهُ فِي الرُّجُوعِ ، فَرَجَعَ حَتَّى هُرِيقَ دَمُهُ ، فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ لِمَلائِكَتِهِ : انْظُرُوا إِلَى عَبْدِي ، رَجَعَ رَجَاءً فِيمَا عِنْدِي ، وَشَفَقًا مِمَّا عِنْدِي حَتَّى هُرِيقَ دَمُهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Our Lord is pleased with two men: one who gets up from his bed and blanket, leaving his wife, and goes towards prayer. Allah Almighty says to His angels: Look at My servant who has risen from his bed and from his wife to come towards prayer, desiring what is with Me and fearing what is with Me. And the second is the person who participates in jihad in the way of Allah; his companions retreat, but he knows what punishment there is for retreating and what reward there is for returning (to the battle), so he returns until his blood is shed. Allah Almighty says to the angels: Look at My servant, he returned hoping for what is with Me and fearing what is with Me, until his blood was shed.”
