Hadith 254

أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلْمُ بْنُ جُنَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى الِلَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَرْبَعٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ كَانَ مُنَافِقًا خَالِصًا ، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنْهَا كَانَتْ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنَ النِّفَاقِ حَتَّى يَدَعَهَا : إِذَا حَدَّثَ كَذَبَ ، وَإِذَا عَاهَدَ غَدَرَ ، وَإِذَا وَعَدَ أَخْلَفَ ، وَإِذَا خَاصَمَ فَجَرَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever possesses four habits will be a pure hypocrite, and whoever has any one of them will have a trait of hypocrisy until he gives it up. (These habits are as follows): When he speaks, he lies; when he makes a covenant, he breaks it; when he makes a promise, he violates it; and when he quarrels, he behaves in an obscene manner.”
