Hadith 2528

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَرُوبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الصَّوَّافُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَالِمُ بْنُ نُوحٍ الْعَطَّارُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَكُنْ يُصَلِّي الضُّحَى إِلا أَنْ يَقْدُمَ مِنْ غَيْبَةٍ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : نَفْيُ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، وَعَائِشَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلاةَ الضُّحَى إِلا أَنْ يَقْدُمَ مِنْ سَفَرٍ أَوْ مَغِيبِهِ ، أَرَادَ بِهِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ بِحَضْرَةِ النَّاسِ دُونَ الْبَيْتِ ، وَذَاكَ أَنَّ مِنْ خُلُقِ الْمُصْطَفَى صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا قَدِمَ مِنْ سَفَرٍ بَدَأَ بِالْمَسْجِدِ ، فَرَكَعَ فِيهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، فَكَانَ أَكْثَرُ قُدُومِ الْمُصْطَفَى صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ مِنَ الأَسْفَارِ وَالْغَزَوَاتِ كَانَ ضُحًى مِنْ أَوَّلِ النَّهَارِ ، وَنَهَى صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَطْرُقَ الرَّجُلُ أَهْلَهُ لَيْلا .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would only perform the Duha prayer when he returned from a journey. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) have negated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed the Duha prayer. However, when he returned from a journey or after being absent from the city, (the ruling is different). His purpose was to meet the people in the mosque, not at home. The reason for this is that it was among the manners of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that when he returned from a journey, he would first go to the mosque and perform two rak‘ahs there. So, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would often return from a journey or a battle at the time of Duha, which is the early part of the day. And the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has prohibited that a person should go to his wife at night (after a long absence).
