Hadith 2516

أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي حَاجَةٍ ، فَأَدْرَكْتُهُ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي ، فَأَشَارَ إِلَيَّ ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ دَعَانِي ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّكَ سَلَّمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَأَنَا أُصَلِّي " ، وَهُوَ مُتَوَجِّهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَحْوَ الْمَشْرِقِ .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me for some task. When I came to him, I greeted him with salam while he was performing prayer. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) replied to me with a gesture. When he finished the prayer, he called me and said: When you greeted me, I was performing prayer. (The narrator says) At that time, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was facing towards the east.
