Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates: Sayyiduna Sulaik Ghatafani (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the mosque on the day of Jumu'ah while the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was delivering the sermon to the people. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: Perform two rak'ahs and do not do such an act again. The narrator says: He performed two rak'ahs and sat down. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "Do not do such an act again," refers to delaying in coming to Jumu'ah. It does not mean that he was being prohibited from performing those two rak'ahs which he was commanded to perform. The evidence for this being correct is the narration transmitted by Ibn ‘Ajlan, which we have already mentioned before, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on another Jumu'ah commanded him in the same way to perform two rak'ahs.
