Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the muezzin would give the call to prayer, the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would hasten towards the pillars to perform prayer, so that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to them, they would be in that state. Those companions used to perform two rak‘ahs before Maghrib as well, even though there was not much interval between the adhan and the iqamah.
