Hadith 2426

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السَّامِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ الْمَقَابِرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالَ : وَأَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ : سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ صَلاةِ اللَّيْلِ ، فَقَالَ : " يُصَلِّي أَحَدُكُمْ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى ، حَتَّى إِذَا خَشِيَ أَنْ يُصْبِحَ سَجَدَ سَجْدَةً تُوتِرُ لَهُ مَا قَدْ صَلَّى " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the night prayer, so he said: One of you should continue to pray two rak‘ahs at a time, and when he fears that dawn is near, he should pray one rak‘ah, and thus make what he has prayed an odd number.
