Hadith 2407

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ اللَّيْثِيُّ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا أَيُّوبَ الأَنْصَارِيَّ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الْوِتْرُ حَقٌّ ، فَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُوتِرَ بِخَمْسٍ فَلْيُوتِرْ ، وَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُوتِرَ بِثَلاثٍ فَلْيُوتِرْ ، وَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُوتِرَ بِوَاحِدَةٍ فَلْيُوتِرْ بِهَا ، وَمَنْ شَقَّ عَلَيْهِ ذَلِكَ فَلْيُومِئْ إِيمَاءً " .
Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Witr is a right; whoever wishes to perform five witr may do so, whoever wishes to perform three witr may do so, whoever wishes to perform one witr may do so, and whoever finds it difficult to perform it should recite it with gestures."
